About
From Wikipedia:
The New York Philharmonic, officially the Philharmonic-Symphony Society of New York, Inc., globally known as New York Philharmonic Orchestra (NYPO) or New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra, is a symphony orchestra based in New York City. It is one of the leading American orchestras popularly referred to as the “Big Five”. The Philharmonic’s home is David Geffen Hall, located in New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Founded in 1842, the orchestra is one of the oldest musical institutions in the United States and the oldest of the “Big Five” orchestras. Its record-setting 14,000th concert was given in December 2004.
Paul McCartney used The New York Philharmonic Orchestra on his 1971 album “RAM“.
Paul goes it alone with the Phil
PAUL McCARTNEY, the Beatle who got away, has found himself a slightly larger group. The New York Phil, no less. He hired them to provide the backing for some of the songs on his new L P, called “Ram” which comes out next week. Paul, now 28, conducted the orchestra while making the album in America. As he calls the tune, he shows an appropriate authority and feeling for the composer’s work. But he would, being the composer himself.
On the new record, Paul shares the billing with his wife Linda. She did, after all, help to write six of the songs, share all the singing, provide some of the percussion, help with production – and take this picture, too.
After ten years in a group, Paul clearly likes to have someone around as he finally goes it alone.
